Allow the VM to access your clipboard in Windows
Before we get started, we need to make sure the VM instance has access to your clipboard.
Once you open the VM instance in Windows. A pop-up should appear on the top left of the browser, asking for permission to access your clipboard. Press "Allow" so you can Copy & Paste the commands to the VM Instance.
β
If the pop-up does not appear. Navigate to the right side of the address bar in the VM instance. There you will see a clipboard icon (see screenshot 2), click on it, and select "Continue allowing the site to see the clipboard."
βYou will not be able to Copy & Paste in the VM if you don't allow this permission.
Installing Atom on Windows
The first part of the lab will have you download the Atom text editor. Navigate to the http://www.atom.io page and download the client. Once downloaded the file will be saved under C:\Users\qwiklabs\Downloads. Execute and install the Atom client.
Extract with 7-zip
Navigate to "C:\Users\Qwiklab\Downloads" and extract the file from the "example.tar" to the Desktop.
Archiving Files with PowerShell
This task will have you compress the files in "C:\Users\Qwiklab\Documents" using Windows PowerShell.
Installing VLC using PowerShell
In this part of the lab, you will need to run the Windows PowerShell with the blue Icon. If you use the other PowerShell, it will not mark it as correct.
When running the "cmd.exe /c $OUTPUT_FILE /S" please give it time to install the VLC app. You will know it's installed once the VLC icon appears on the desktop (see screenshot 3).
Uninstall GIMP using PowerShell
Lastly, this part of the lab will show you how to uninstall a program using Windows PowerShell.
β
