Understanding Windows S Mode

Some laptops issued by Merit America may come with Microsoft Windows in S Mode. This usually happens during the reset process for security purposes.

What is S Mode?

  • S Mode is a Windows setting that:

    • Only allows apps to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

    • Blocks installing applications directly from the internet or third-party sites (for example, Slack or Zoom).

  • It is designed to improve device security and performance.

Why might I need to turn off S Mode?
